Broken Babylon came out of 2020, and it sounds like 2020 felt.
This isn't a concept album about the pandemic. It was just built during it, at a time when systems were visibly failing, when the noise-to-signal ratio of the world hit an all-time high. That context is baked into the production whether it was intended or not.
The Structure
Every track in Broken Babylon starts with a broken thing. A fractured rhythm, a distorted baseline, a melody that can't quite resolve. Then it gets rebuilt. Not fixed, rebuilt. There's a difference.
Machine Logic
This album leans hard into machine rhythms. Not humanised, not warmed up. The machines are allowed to be machines here, and that creates a particular kind of tension that the more produced albums don't have.
